The Reverend Alan J. Bouffard

Alan grew up in Pittsburgh when it was known as the “Steel City”. He and his family were members of Calvary Church. He attended the University of Pittsburgh and received a B.S. in Mathematics. He worked for U.S. Steel Corp. for five years before going to law school, and he spent nine months working at a steel mill as part of the management training program. After graduation from law school, he spent five years as an Assistant City Solicitor for the City of Pittsburgh.

Alan moved to the Greater Boston area in 1981 to attend Harvard Divinity School, where he met his wife, Vivien. He received a Master of Divinity degree in 1985. He continued to practice law and to engage very actively in lay ministry.

Alan entered the ordained ministry in 2008 after practicing law for 32 years. He served as a Deacon for one year and was ordained as a priest in the Anglican Church in North America in 2009.

He enjoys classical music, the art of the Italian Renaissance, English poetry, crossword puzzles, the Red Sox and Patriots, and motion pictures made before 1960, especially those starring Greta Garbo, Humphrey Bogart, Ingrid Berman, Alec Guinness and the Marx brothers. Alan’s wife, Vivien, a graduate of Oberlin College, serves as the organist/pianist for the Norwood congregation.
